Stillwater, Minnesota’s first City travel itinerary
This itinerary is best Thursdays thru Sundays . . .
Day One
11 am
Welcome to Minnesota’s first city! Check into your guest room at one of Stillwater’s wonderful lodging facilities. Then start your tour… but don’t rush yourself… any tour including wine is meant to be savored.
Take part in the The Three Rivers Wine Trail, which highlights some of the finest wineries this side of the Napa Valley. Stillwateris the home of two outstanding wineries, Northern Vineyards and St. Croix Vineyards.
11:30 – 1:00 pm
Your first stop is Northern Vineyards who make award-winning wines using grapes grown locally. Take a look around and enjoy some wine and the view off the back terrace of the winery, overlooking the St. Croix River with a stunning view of Stillwater’s historic lift-bridge.
1 – 2:00 pm
In keeping with your theme of the day, lunch will be served at the Dock Café. Situated along the edge of the St.CroixRiver in old town Stillwater – a gathering place of friends, great food and fine wine. Enjoy. . .
2 – 4:00 pm
Just west of Stillwater you will arrive at Saint Croix Vineyards. Stroll through the picturesque vineyards and kick back in their beautifully restored century old barn, which houses their tasting room. You will find it a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
4 – 6:00 pm
Interested in local micro-breweries as well? Stillwater has two for you to tour or wander into… first, there is Stillwater Brewers located in the historic Isaac Staples Mill where you can enjoy a free pint and purchase growlers and Beer Gear. They only brew 10 barrels at a time. Then a few minutes from downtown is the Lift Bridge Brewery where the hobby of home-brewing has turned into a micro-brewery turning out beers that “taste good!”
6 – 8:00 pm
Wine & Dine Stillwater Style
Arrive back in Stillwater in time for dinner at one of their fine dining restaurants. As you study the menu, ask your waiter which wine pairs best with your selection.
8:00 pm
After your busy day of touring wineries and enjoying samplings…walk back to your historic inn or B&B. Sleep well as tomorrow brings more touring, shopping and wineries.
Day Two
A New Day – after your delicious breakfast, spend the morning enjoying this historic river town, Take a trolley tour…a boat ride…a hike…shop Main Street and dine in the delightful eateries. This afternoon, weather permitting, you might consider a hot air balloon ride over the St. Croix River, or take a scenic drive through rolling hills to St. Croix Falls on the Wisconsin Side of the river where old world European style charm awaits you at the Chateau St. Croix Vineyard & Winery.
