Discover Winnipeg’s unique neighborhoods with your groups as you search for the ultimate in taste-tempting food in this two day itinerary.
Day 1
Archaeologists believe the land at the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers was a gathering place for indigenous people 6,000 years ago. Today The Forks, as it is known, is a bustling centre of dining, entertainment and shopping. The Forks Market is a food emporium with a mix of ethnic restaurants and made-in-Manitoba food items. The aroma of cinnamon buns leads you to Tall Grass Prairie Bakery, where your group can bake their own loaf of bread and enjoy the samples. Or taste local delicacies at The Current Restaurant at the Inn at The Forks. Develop your culinary skills under the expert guidance of the instructors at De Luca’s Cooking Studio as they demonstrate a variety of authentic Italian dishes. The Manitoba Japanese Cultural Centre offers tips on sushi rolling and the art of presentation. Local chocolatiers celebrate Winnipeg flavors in their creations – try Mordens’ of Winnipeg on Sargeant Avenue or Constance Popp on Portage Ave. Both have a signature spin on what a Manitoba treat should taste like.
Winnipeg’s ethnic food restaurants not only serve the best of their cultural cuisine, but feature international dishes influenced by Manitoba’s regional cuisine flavors.
Ukraniain perogies, Greek souvlaki and Indian curry are all available throughout the city. Corydon Avenue, also known as “Little Italy”, is noted for its popular patio restaurants, gelaterias and bars. Over the past decade, the area has changed from predominately Italian cuisine to include tastes from around the world. Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sights and sounds as you stroll the avenue.
