Fairmont is located amid a series of five lakes. Whether your group is looking to satisfy their arts/entertainment and cultural needs or wanting to explore the outdoors, the “City of Lakes” offers something for everyone.
Day One
9 – 12:00 pm
Welcome to Fairmont! Join the fun with an official “City of Lakes” tour beginning at Martin County Historical Society’s Pioneer Museum. Featuring a vast collection of Native American relics in addition to many artifacts from Martin County’s history. See a Wooton Desk, a 1923 American La France fire truck, a pioneer home display from the turn of the 20th century and many other artifacts.
Continue on to the Martin County Courthouse which was initially a stockade providing safety to the local citizens against Indian uprisings. It was called Fort Fairmont. Especially noteworthy are the upper level murals and artistic construction. It is considered one of the Top 10 most beautiful courthouses in Minnesota.
12 – 1:30 pm
Enjoy a catered lunch at Red Rock Center for the Arts. Tour the restored 1898 red stone building that was once a church and now houses a location for many local artists to display their work. It was constructed of Sioux red quartzite and has 19 beautiful stained glass windows. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
1:30 – 4:00 pm
Spend the afternoon enjoying Heritage Acres, along Lake Avenue. This is an Agricultural Interpretive Center. Your group can stroll through yesterday on “Old Main Street” – where community events and festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Tours are conducted through yesteryear’s Pioneer Village
4 – 6:30 pm
Check into one of Fairmont’s comfortable lodging facilities and freshen up for dinner.
6:30 pm
An evening performance at the Fairmont Opera House will entertain your group this evening. This unique building that has enriched the architectural cultural and commercial life of the region for over 100 years. The Fairmont Opera House is proud to present season after successful season of live performances.
