Red Wing, Minnesota – group trip itinerary

Fall Colors and Local Flair

This itinerary works best in the Fall.

Red Wing is nestled along the Mississippi River Valley, one hour south of Mpls./St. Paul on scenic Hwy 61.

DAY ONE

9:00am

Arrive at Red Wing’s historic depot, now the visitor’s center. The local guide from Roaming Red Wing will join you here.

9:15-10:45am

This remarkable tour takes you past an array of buildings that are on the National Register of Historic Places and will include a stop on top of Sorin’s Bluff. This spectacular scenic overlook of the city and Mississippi River Valley ablaze with autumn’s colors will leave you with lasting memories.

10:45- 11:45am

Watch pottery being made at the Red Wing Stoneware Company. Admire local potters creating beautiful stoneware in the tradition of Red Wing’s famous Union Stoneware Company.

11:45 to 1:30pm

Lunch at the Veranda Restaurant located on the first floor of the St. James Hotel. The delectable menu includes Sturdiwheat pancakes, a local favorite. Sturdiwheat is a locally owned and operated line of pancake, bread and cereal mixes.

1:30- 3:30pm

In the old Pottery District sits the historic Pottery Place Mall. Once home to the Union Stoneware Company, today you can shop antique stores and specialty shops. Next door is the Red Wing Pottery Salesroom, a must for any visit to Red Wing. It is said the Salesroom has the largest selection of dinnerware, pottery and gifts in the upper Midwest!

3:40- 5:00pm

Back to the St James Hotel where you will check your group in. Relax or visit the St. James Shopping Court, all conveniently located on the first level of the hotel.

5:00 – 8:00pm

Falconer Vineyards opened their Vineyard Bistro in 2011, located on a covered deck which overlooks 6.5 acre vineyard. Your group will sip on Falconer Vineyards wine and enjoy the serenity surroundings. 
Wood fire pizzas are currenty available in 8″ personal size made on a wheat crust of their own recipe.

DAY TWO

8:15- 9:00am

For breakfast, enjoy Morning coffee, tea or hot chocolate in the Historic Lobby.

9:00-1:00pm

Plenty of shopping with out ever leaving the St James! A variety of shopping options await just a few steps from your room. The St. James Courtyard showcases one-of-a-kind clothing stores, fine gifts, even salon and spa services. You group could leave the hotel, but why would you want to?
